Examining the female experience, specifically the violence and sexualization that young women and girls are subjected to, Chelanne Wolff investigates the line between intimacy and vulnerability through audience engagement. Her work invites viewers to become close, both physically and emotionally, to the experiences of young women. Greco-Roman sculpture provides an important source of visual inspiration, influencing the posture of her drawings and her need for enormity while referencing the historical representations of women’s bodies as public entertainment and objects of affection or sexual frustration. Her work brings the viewer closer, forging a connection between physical proximity and intimate understanding, leaving the viewer with a better awareness of vulnerability and consent.
