IVY MCWILLIAMS
Thematically, Ivy McWilliams’ work attempts to dissect the instinctual forces that underpin human interaction and govern communities. Using oil painting and sculpture as her main modes of creation, she seeks to both celebrate and reflect on the complexities of pursuing connections with others; her work focuses on these primal instincts that drive us toward either self-preservation or self-destruction. She moves between depicting the human form and creating abstract renderings to express the movement of emotions through the body. McWilliams’ current work articulates non-understanding: something that exists between the known and the unknown, with familiar aspects that ultimately disorients the viewer, immersing them in her inner landscape and giving way to heavy emotional themes like loss, anger and violence.
