MEAGAN WEBSTER

Themes of belonging, uncertainty, anxiety, and fear of the unknown are explored through oil pastels, acrylic paint, collage, and digital media in Meagan Webster’s art practice. They compose scenes that incorporate busy brushwork and omit clarifying information to overwhelm the space. Much of their digital work is character-driven, building on existing stories and designs. Developing narratives around these characters provides Webster with the opportunity to reflect on their inner world. Webster adds apprehensive elements to ordinary spaces, striking a balance between vibrant visuals and unnerving subject matter. Playfulness is an essential part of their creative process, making their work instinctual in its gesture, subject, and medium. Their use of bold colours and energetic shapes is intuitive and self-indulgent.
