WAYLON ASP

[email protected]@wwwaylonnn

Waylon Asp is a Tahltan and Ukrainian Jewish artist working in illustration, painting, animation and sculpture. His practice is a combination of autoethnography and narrative activism via Indigenous fantasy, taking his Tahltan heritage and applying its foundational visual and linguistic traditions to the worlds of popular culture and cartoons. As a neurodiverse person, Asp’s understanding of himself and the world around him has been especially shaped by the cultural magnitude of mass-produced, animated, and illustrated entertainment media. He seeks to examine the intersections of cultural and popular myth, legend, and the transmission of a collective social consciousness while furthering his decolonial and reconstructive work as a Tahltan artist.
