MEZZAMALLEA
Mezzamallea: The Upstairs Gallery, is an exhibition series featuring the work of artists in the BFA Graduating Class of 2025.
Each curated installment presents a unique theme, subject, or medium that unites the work. Mezzamallea is located in the Visual Arts Building’s second floor mezzanine.
MEZZAMALLEA I
The first showing in this series features Harrison Elam, Taya Findlay and Breanna Sprecker, each presenting works that investigate how delicate material considerations can convey nuanced relationships with self, family, and land.

MEZZAMALLEA II
The second edition of Mezzamallea is built upon observation, experimentation and the alchemical processes of artistic discovery.
O. Bjørn Cross, Emily Utzinger and Ivy McWilliams explore the intersection of art and science to uncover themes of personal and environmental history, accumulation, and the relationship between the observed and the unobservable.
MEZZAMALLEA III
In Mezzamallea III, artists Peony Ng, Emma Simpson, Luke Bowers and Lindsay Van Rooyen reveal ruptures in the infrastructure of our everyday lives by exploring the geometry and architecture of contemporary urban and suburban spaces.

MEZZAMALLEA IV
The fourth showing in this series features Ben Chase, Percy James Matheson, James Boyle, Yves Argue, and Zo Walde.
All five of these artists use bold, saturated colour to communicate aspects of somatic identity into visual media. These works feature the body as an avenue for explorations of relationships, physicality, and the self.
MEZZAMALLEA V
Mezzamallea V, featuring the artists Gunel Akhundova, Waylon Asp, Jaden Deng, RJ Klippenstein, and Neva Nowazek, is a show that demonstrates the intersecting relationships with heritage, language reclamation, and cross-cultural influence.
The works in this exhibition are reflections of each artist’s identities and experiences, collected into stories told through a combination of vibrant historical reference and contemporary conceptual modality.

MEZZAMALLEA VI
The sixth and final Mezzamallea show is a celebration of the vast history of oil painting methodologies and movements.
Alyena, Aidan Coyle, Kelsey Trottier and Sadie Gaudet draw from a wide array of technical and thematic approaches, resulting in an exciting preview of work to come in the class of 2025’s graduating exhibition.
